Al-Marri

A family name (nisba) attributed in the Gulf to the tribe of Al Murrah; a like-sounding classical nisba to Banu Murrah also exists.

Tribal nisba
Attributed to
Al Murrah (in the Gulf); Banu Murrah classically

Overview

Al-Marri (al-Murrī) is, in the Gulf, the nisba of the tribe of Al Murrah, widespread in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE. The classical works also record a nisba of the same form to Banu Murrah of Ghatafan — a distinct, older attribution.

Note

The same nisba can arise in different lines and regions. Bearing it does not by itself establish a specific descent; families should verify their own documented lineage.
