Overview
Al-Yafei (al-Yāfiʿī) is the nisba of Yafi' in southern Yemen, reported among the Himyari tribes. It is an old nisba — borne by scholars such as the historian ʿAbdallāh al-Yāfiʿī (d. 768 AH) — and Yafi'i families are found today across Yemen, the Gulf and the Hadhrami diaspora routes.
Note
Bearing a tribal nisba does not by itself establish a specific line of descent; families should verify their own documented lineage.
