Overview

Banī Hājir are recorded across eastern Arabia and into Qatar, in the country between al-Aḥsāʾ and the coast. The sources most often reckon them to Qaḥṭān, though as always the attribution is reported rather than established. They are among the tribes whose range straddles what are now several national borders — normal for eastern Arabia, where tribal country long predates the frontiers drawn across it.

On lineage

Branch lists and affiliations here are given as reported by the classical genealogists, who themselves disagree. Nothing on this page establishes any living family's descent: a shared name may reflect descent, alliance (ḥilf) or clientage (walāʾ), and the sources usually say which only when they know.
