Overview
Al-Bāḥah lies on the Sarāt range south of Ṭāʾif: juniper-forested highland, terraced fields, and the stone villages the region is known for.
In genealogy
The sources record it as the *diyār* of Ghāmid and Zahrān, the two tribes most closely associated with the region and the origin of the family names Al-Ghāmidī and Al-Zahrānī. As always, a family bearing one of those names is attributed to the tribe; whether by descent, alliance or clientage is a separate question the name alone does not answer.
Setting
Between the highland and the coast the land falls away into Tihāma, and the old descending routes between the two are still named in the geographies.
