Overview

Dammam is the administrative centre of the Eastern Province on the Arabian Gulf coast. It grew in the twentieth century from a small fishing and pearling settlement into a major port and metropolitan area together with Dhahran and Khobar.

Region

The Eastern Province is the historical region of al-Ahsa and Qatif, whose oases are among the oldest continuously settled places in the Peninsula.
