- Type
- Nisba (tribal or ancestral)
- Attributed to
- Bani Khalid (in eastern Arabia); ancestors named Khalid elsewhere
Overview
Al-Khalidi (al-Khālidī) is a nisba-form family name. In eastern Arabia it is commonly attributed to the tribe of Bani Khalid; elsewhere in the Arab world the same nisba is borne by families tracing it to ancestors named Khalid, including famous attributions to Khālid ibn al-Walīd that the sources treat variously.
Note
The same nisba can arise independently in different regions and lines. Bearing it does not by itself establish a specific descent; families should verify their own documented lineage.
