ʿAnz
An early Rabīʿa tribe, distinguished in the sources from the later ʿAnizah despite the similar name.

Overview
ʿAnz ibn Wāʾil is an early tribe placed under Rabīʿa. It is worth a page chiefly because of the confusion its name causes: ʿAnizah, the large modern confederation, is a separate name with a separate history, and the two are not to be merged on the strength of a similar spelling. The genealogists keep them apart; casual sources often do not.
On lineage
Branch lists and affiliations here are given as reported by the classical genealogists, who themselves disagree. Nothing on this page establishes any living family's descent: a shared name may reflect descent, alliance (ḥilf) or clientage (walāʾ).
Frequently asked questions
Is ʿAnz the same as ʿAnizah?
No. The genealogists keep them apart — similar spelling, separate names and separate histories.
