Al-Amiri
A family name (nisba) attributed in its tribal sense to ʿĀmir ibn Ṣaʿṣaʿa of Hawāzin — but ʿĀmir is a very common personal name, and many unrelated lines yield the same form.

Overview
Al-Amiri (al-ʿĀmirī) is, in its tribal sense, the nisba of ʿĀmir ibn Ṣaʿṣaʿa, reckoned by the genealogists to Hawāzin under Muḍar, with its remembered range in Najd and the country toward the Hijaz. Kilāb, ʿUqayl, Qushayr, Numayr and Hilāl are counted among its branches, so a family met as al-ʿĀmirī in one source may appear under a branch nisba in another. The root ʿ-m-r is in Lisān al-ʿArab dwelling, building up and long life, and ʿĀmir is the participle from it.
Names easily confused
ʿĀmir is among the most frequent of Arabic personal names, and a nisba may be built on any forebear who bore it, with no tribal sense whatever; the same written form therefore arises independently in lines with no connection to ʿĀmir ibn Ṣaʿṣaʿa. The classical books carry other ʿĀmirs at the head of other groups as well — ʿĀmir ibn Luʾayy among Quraysh is one — each producing al-ʿĀmirī in exactly the same shape. On its own the name says only that a family is called after an ʿĀmir; which ʿĀmir is a question the form cannot answer, and the sources differ.
Bearing the name
A tribal nisba records what a family is called, not who its ancestors were. It may follow descent (ṣarīḥ), alliance (ḥilf) or clientage (walāʾ), and only a family's own documented record tells those apart.
