Overview
Muḍar is one of the two large groupings the genealogists place under the ʿAdnānī line, the other being Rabīʿa. Under Muḍar the sources gather a great many tribes of the Ḥijāz and Najd, among them Kināna and, through it, Quraysh, as well as Hawāzin and its branches. It is a level of the scheme rather than a tribe anyone belongs to directly today: no one is 'from Muḍar' in the way they are from Ḥarb or Tamīm.
On lineage
Branch lists and affiliations here are given as reported by the classical genealogists, who themselves disagree. Nothing on this page establishes any living family's descent: a shared name may reflect descent, alliance (ḥilf) or clientage (walāʾ), and the sources usually say which only when they know.
Frequently asked questions
What is Muḍar?
One of the two great ʿAdnānī groupings, alongside Rabīʿa. It gathers many tribes rather than being one itself.
