Overview
Al-Ḥarāsīs are a small tribe of central Oman, and the gravel desert they inhabit — the *Jiddat al-Ḥarāsīs* — is named for them, one of the few cases where a landscape carries a tribe's name in current official use. They are noted for a specialised knowledge of that country, and the region is the site of the Arabian oryx reintroduction.
On lineage
Branch lists and affiliations here are given as reported by the classical genealogists, who themselves disagree. Nothing on this page establishes any living family's descent: a shared name may reflect descent, alliance (ḥilf) or clientage (walāʾ).
Frequently asked questions
Why is the Jiddat al-Ḥarāsīs so called?
