Overview
Hamdan is one of the great and anciently attested tribal confederations of Yemen, its homeland in the northern highlands around Sanaa. The classical sources record Hashid and Bakil as its two famous branches, and the geographer al-Hasan al-Hamdani — author of 'The Description of Arabia' — belonged to it.
Note on lineage
The confederation's genealogy is treated at length in the classical works, with the usual differences in detail. This page states only the broad outline; verify branch- and family-level claims against a named source before publishing.
